Call to Pause II

We wrote Call to Pause I in March of 2023, when AI first began dominating the tech conversation, and groups of people banded together to release statements about the dangers of AI. The same thing is happening here in September 2026, so we decided to compare what the different factions were saying then, what they’re saying now, and how the predictions bore out so far.

The short story is this: the harms towards workers and artists have come to pass, and the big science-fiction threats have not. The CEOs are inventing the same threats they were then, in order to cover up the true damage their companies are doing on the planet.

I don’t want to contribute another post to the conversation where we list all the male billionaires and break down their lies and sociopathy. I’d prefer to look at the women who were right in 2023 and continue to be right today.

As a side note — I didn’t use ChatGPT for our 2023 post, but I did ask it to source comparative quotes for my 2026 post. It cited zero women. I asked it to cite women, and it told me that women haven’t really been involved in the conversation in 2026. I’ll share my conversation for anyone interested because it was kind of horrifying.
