Leica Sofort 2

My new favorite camera! Penguin got me this for Christmas, and it’s pure joy. The Leica Sofort 2 feels like a bridge between eras—digital in its precision, analog in its heart. Each photo is a little square of time you can hold in your hand, warm from the printer, still smelling faintly of ink and possibility.

After years of living inside screens, there’s something extraordinary about having a tangible artifact again. A real photograph. It means you can hand a memory to someone instead of sending a link. You can tape it to a wall, tuck it into a book, or leave it on a table for someone to find.

The Sofort 2 reminds me that technology doesn’t have to distance us from the moment—it can fix the moment, make it durable, portable, and imperfect in the best way. Every print is a tiny act of care, an image that exists in the world, not just in the cloud.
